Entry Requirements
All US citizens need a valid passport. Canadians should carry valid passports; however they may substitute certificates of Canadian citizenship bearing photographs, along with official birth certificates and original documents to prove any name change. British subjects need a passport. Japanese visitors need a passport, with a visa for any stay over 90 days.
Tax - Free Status
Through a 1981 treaty with the US, expenses for a meeting or convention are tax deductible.
Taxes
A 16.5 percent general consumption tax (GCT) is levied on specific goods and services. The airport departure tax is Jid="mce_marker"000, subject to change.
Telecommunications
Jamaica’s modern networks connect with the world easily. Look for internet cafés and storefronts island wide to rent or buy cell phones, SIM cards and minutes. Foreign carriers roam here; rates may be higher.
Time Zone
Jamaicans set their clocks to GMT-5, same as US EST, but do not observe daylight saving time.
Driving
Remember to drive on the left. Speed limit is 50km (30mph) in built-up areas; 80km (50mph) on highways. Drivers must carry a valid Drivers license.
