'MoBay shouldn't have to come to Kingston for everything' — Hylton

MONTEGO BAY, St James - MINISTER of Industry, Investment and Commerce Anthony Hylton has said that one reason for junior minister Sharon Folkes Abrahams' appointment in the ministry is to establish stronger links in Montego Bay.alt

"I hope you will see that as an increased acknowledgment and role of Montego Bay, that we have deliberately brought Sharon Folkes Abrahams into the ministry to have a greater presence for the ministry itself in Montego Bay and the several agencies in Montego Bay," Hylton told local business leaders.

The minister who was meeting members of the Montego Bay business sector at the Montego Bay Free Zone said his ministry was working to ensure "that Montego Bay does not have to come to Kingston for everything".

"We hope to have most things, certainly that which affects you in any significant way... to have as much of that situated right here in Montego Bay to ease the burden and that additional cost of doing business," Hylton said.

Folkes Abrahams, who lauded the role that the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry is playing in assisting the business sector in the resort town, announced that an office of industry, investment and commerce is to be established in Montego Bay.

MoBay Chamber promises bigger, better 2012 expo

Sheena Gayle, Gleaner Writer
WESTERN BUREAU:

altAgainst the background of the successful staging of Expo 2011 by the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, president Davon Crump is looking forward to 2012, when he promises a bigger and better showcase and activities.

"We think it was successful based on the response we have been getting from the patrons, sponsors and exhibitors. They all felt it was money well spent, and we have a positive outlook for next year's staging," Crump told The Gleaner.

He further added that the move to host the event at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in Rose Hall paid off, as it facilitated creativity and comfort among the exhibitors and patrons who supported the event.

"The convention centre was a great host location and it will now become our permanent home. It's spacious and the level of comfort it provides is important in the staging of an event of this nature. It was a marked improvement from our previous location," he noted.
