What is a Chamber of Commerce?

It is an association of business people that promotes the interests of its members and of business in general. The first recorded associations if this kind was formed in the days of the Roman Empire, whilst the first group to bear the name “Chamber of Commerce” was established in Marseille, France in 1599.

How was the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce formed?

It can be safely said that the person most responsible for the formation of the Chamber was the Hon. Walter Fletcher C.B.E., J.P. (deceased) when it was developed from the Montego Bay Citizens Association in 1932. He became the first President from that year until 1959. He served with distinction fir 27 years. Since then a number of outstanding stalwarts have led the Chamber and made their contribution to the development and sustainability of this noble institution.
